David Grim Memorial

This month ARC donated $7200 to the Coral Restoration Foundation in the memory David Grim. The BoD voted and passed a resolution to donate 5k in David's memory. Due to the generosity of our community we were able to generate an extra $2200 in auctions. David was an amazing person and a huge contributor to our community.

As a result, next month the Coral Restoraion Foundation will be releasing its monthly magazine and it will include a memorial in David's honor. Once it's available I will post a link to it.

I wanted to thank each and every member who participated in the auctions. It's an amazing thing to see us come together and honor one of our own.

I asked Ralph to say a few words that will go into the publication. I wanted to share this with our community.

David Grim

Acroholic was his screen name, and he lived up to that and more. Acropora, Chalices, Zoa....Coral...any living coral was his passion.

I had known David for 12 years as we both were on Reef Central forums and then on Atlanta Reef Club's forum. The guy was just brilliant, giving qualified advice right from the start. He has helped hundreds of people. The top 3 individuals that have helped and influenced me the most would be Kevin Kohen, Randy Farley-Barnes and David Grimm. I know he is in the top 3 of hundreds of other aquarists.

He was selfless with his time and advice and always completely thought out the the answer to insure that the person understood completely with all pros and cons.

He was a "systems" driven person and with each piece of equipment making it more and more self running and less work for him. In the last couple of years his tanks were almost completely maintainance free with a constant water changing system.

His passion for helping people was twenty-four seven.
His passion for animals in general was more than your average animal lover.
However, his passion for the ocean and specifically was borderline addiction, hence his screen name Acroholic. He is truly missed.

A good cause to come together for with out a doubt, with out any hesitation this community is always willing to to help out and support one of it's own and others and Dave Grimm was defiantly one of ARC's own.
The Coral Restoration foundation is an establishment that goes hand in hand with the hobby that we are in and for some it's more than a hobby, it's a passion, so to donate to the CRF was not a hard decision to make.
Thanks to this community we have accomplished helping to restore some of natures treasures and at the same time set up a memory for one of our own that will hopefully live on forever.
Thank you Members of the ARC.

Maybe we could do this dedication yearly in honor of Dave? Not saying it has to be a large sum of money, but just the thought of a continuing tribute to Dave whom has helped so many in so many places with Reef Keeping and life in general.

Well done.

I'm sure David would approve.

BTW - his last name has only one M. David Grim.

Not to be picky but if it's appearing in print it should be correct

Jenn

Well done! I'll be more proactive next time, if this raise funding happens again as wannabe suggested, and goes like this time for a good cause and to fund programs like The Coral Restoration Foundation!

I'm sure David would be amazed for what's happening on his name.
Thanks for putting this together.

This is so awesome. He'll always be Discus Dave to me, but his passion for aquatics can never be matched and seeing him honored like this is very impressive. Kudos to anyone that had a part in making it happen.

I wanted to pass this along to our community. The following email will be sent out to the Coral Restoration Foundation database this month. As I receive more information on publications ect I will post the links here. Ralph thankyou for takiing the time to write such kind words about about an amazing person.

"In September The Atlanta Reef Club hosted Ashley Hill, Education Manager, at one of their monthly meetings to update their members on our work in the Florida Keys. The Club has been a long-time supporter of the Coral Restoration Foundation.

This year following Ashley’s talk, club president, Brett Cavalli, presented her with a donation made in memory of David Grim. David served on the Reef Central forum and that of the Atlanta Reef Club and influenced countless of hobbyists in the aquarium hobby. “The guy was just brilliant, giving qualified advice right from the start. He has helped hundreds of people. The top 3 individuals that have helped and influenced me the most would be Kevin Kohen, Randy Farley-Barnes and David Grimm. I know he is in the top 3 of hundreds of other aquarists,” said Ralph Scheriff, club member. “Acropora, Chalices, Zoas...Coral...any living coral was his passion.”

Coral Restoration Foundation is appreciative of the generous donation that will support our efforts to fully restore eight reefs throughout the Florida Keys. Thank you to The Atlanta Reef Club for contributing to this unprecedented restoration effort and for remembering David Grim in such a meaningful way.
