All this constant rain and swollen rivers has given me the itch to go rafting again... This will not be in place of the March meeting. This is just an additional activity that will be free for supporting members.

I have 2 rafts, paddles, life vests, helmets, etc. One of my rafts can hold 10 but I prefer to take no more than 8 in it and the other can hold 6. We have 9 spaces available (updated).

The river we will be tackling is the Chatooga River. It is on the border of GA/SC and roughly a few hours North of Atlanta. This is the river that the movie Deliverance was filmed on and its truly breathtaking in its beauty. It also has some of the most amazing rapids in the SE which culminate in a class 4+ rapid at the end called Bull Sluice. Class 4+ is the limit for white water rafting... and it is a blast! Here's a link to a rafting company for more info on the river itself: https://wildwaterrafting.com/adventures/chattooga-river-rafting/?gclid=CjwKCAiAy9jyBRA6EiwAeclQhBDxEEzYG5z39A0NY5cvnUB-ZJj-wWjRgUXejw7XvEdwXx5te79jPBoCgAEQAvD_BwE

The park service requires that you use no less than two rafts to traverse this river. This way each raft can support the other in case of any issues as there is literally nothing but wilderness around for miles and miles... Thus we have to take two rafts. You will be required to sign a waiver as this is not your everyday paddle boat experience... and although you will have a USCG certified vest it would be best if you can swim as you will be getting wet. I don't recall how many life vests and helmets I have but I will take inventory soon. If you have your own gear that would be great as there is no guarantee that my gear will necessarily fit you.

We will be doing this trip on March 15 and meeting at 8 am. The trip itself is about 5 hours on the water if we do both Stage 2 and 3. I haven't chosen the meet up spot yet but that will be announced shortly. We will need to work out some logistics for hauling gear and people... so if you can drive and have an SUV or van that would be grand. Please let me know :). Please bring some grub for yourself as I don't want to pack food and be in charge of your personal likes/dislikes/gluten issues/allergies... etc. We will be taking a break on the river between some of the rapids for lunch. We'll provide a case of water.

So if you're in, post here or PM me.

Space is limited as you can see but if there's enough interest we can certainly schedule another one of these. I will be checking the water levels regularly. Since the Chatooga is a natural river if the water levels are dangerously high or pitifully low, I may change the venue to the dam controlled Ocoee which is pretty good but pales in comparison... :)

This rafting trip is fantastic- used to do it all the time in my pre-injured youthful years, can’t do it anymore.
Really beautiful scenery and multiple great runs. Hope everyone has a fantastic time doing this!

I've done this part of the river plenty of times. A lot of fun, make sure you are an adequate swimmer. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it that weekend.

You know I'm game!
Just as long as Zap doesn't try to embrace the FULL Deliverance experience with me

A couple friends and I rafted the Zambezi a couple months ago and it was one of the funnest things I've ever done! I'd be in and a couple of my friends from that trip may want to join as well.

Is there a spot still available for this? I can probably go, just need to confirm a couple things
We do have 1 space for yah but I'll be moving the trip and reaching out to everyone that messaged me or wrote on here. Sometimes late March is warm enough... not this year... :)
