i met a guy thats just getting into the hobby and we got to talking and he said he is starting from scratch and doesnt have anything yet. so we started talking about filtration ang got on the subject of sumps and i told him since he didnt have one if he paid for the materials id build him a sump. the only thing i didnt do was cut the acrylic since i dont have access to a table saw so i had a friend do that for me. i did the planning, i did all the silicone by hand and it turned out pretty nice, i sanded all the peices that needed it by hand and did all the solvent welding. well anyway i put a lot more work into this thing than i usually do i dont know if it was because its for someone else or what but it turned out nice and im really proud of it so i figured id show it off.

nice clean silicone lines.

filtersock tray. had to hand sand the hole for about 35-40 mins bacause the hole saw i had that was closest to the diameter of the filtersock was 1/2 inch too small and all the corners were sanded round that way they wouldnt cut into the silicone

small tabs for the fs tray to sit on. the one at the top right was siliconed into place since there was no acrylic near by the rest were solvent welded to the acrylic

tab made of thin acrylic to keep the fs tray in place when you just want to change filtersocks (i made the tray removable for cleaning)

and the filtersock in the tray in the chamber. its too long but that shouldnt affect the performance of it.[IMG]http://s1263.photobucket.com/user/brijesh0789/media/19915FF3-CB15-46D6-B632-E611F32163BC-22840-000012F21FFD3455_zps6a7a82a2.jpg.html">19915FF3-CB15-46D6-B632-E611F32163BC-22840-000012F21FFD3455_zps6a7a82a2.jpg Photo by brijesh0789 | Photobucket</a>

yea i thought the code looked a little funny but i couldnt put my finger on it. and the weird thing is when i previewed the post they showed up with no problem. but on photobucket the img code link results in the links you see. so idk what the deal is.

Wow! Great job sooo I'm ugh just getting into the hobby and ergh need a sump ;) ;)

Very nice. I'm jealous- hey picoreefguy- the frags are doing great- growing fast!!

thanks guys. cedsaquadiction no problem man ill make sure to take some pics when we get his tank going. and andrew im jealous too i was joking around with my buddy that cut the acrylic for me saying that if the guy dosent come get this im keeping it lol.... oh and im glad your corals are doing good just make sure to watch that gsp its a fast spreader and itll take over on ya if youre not carefull

Great job with the straight silicone lines and space well divided, I'm still wondering what the last shot will look like? Overall great DIY and almost make it look as it was factory created!

heres the full shot of the sump one from the top and one from the side. i love the 20 longs cause theres so much room to work with. notice all the extra space in the skimmer area and the return pump area. theres pleanty of room if he ever wants to upgrade in the future.

and kids always remember to copy your post before you hit the post button because if something goes wrong you cant just hit the back button and expect it to be there (happened to me TWICE while trying to post this)

You said is acrylic not plexyglass, does this acrylic will expand? Do you have to give a gap between the glass and acrylic? Thank you! It does look good!

well acrylic and plexiglas are the same thing plexiglas is just the brand name of it. and i dont think it will expand ive built a few sumps with it and never had a problem.

Hey Brijesh

I recognizance that cheesy green carpet!

BTW good looking sump! If you ever need there's a tablesaw somewhere out in my shop.

very good looking. I did something similar when I started out using a 20L. I'll take some pictures when I get a minute. Good work.

thanks everyone.
