The only problem is when we get a good salt water pet store in the area (reef shac) you complain about a few dollars. Dollars that you would have spent on gas to get to one of the larger pet stores. I have shopped at other stores but at the same time i will continue to support the reef shac without complaining at.

Not only that but he is an all around great guy to work with. I don't think I could find some of the corals I have gotten from him for the price + 10% at any other store around.
I know I haven't even received a membership card for over a year - so maybe that will be the case for others and we can continue to get low everyday prices from Shac! I appreciate what I get there and would never nickel and dime him. Just my two cents. My tanks have some aaahhhmmmaaazzxing colors now thanks to him!

As far as I know any sponsor could be giving a nonmember a bigger discount than 10%. His right . I've always thought it to be useless.
Holding events such as SEA and Creation are doing is more in line with my idea of a sponsor. The 10% discount just causes rift in the club and breeds animosity. So far as feedback about a sponsor is concerned I say forget it either way. I personally don't care what others think of them. Let's get back to bashing products and each other for goodness sake

I whole heartedly agree! I just think the requirements for being a sponsor are monetary in nature and should be based more on involvement, much like the two I mentioned before SEA and Creation. That's all. No less value do I imply, just different criteria. I think I stand as a minority on this as most want the discount.rdnelson99;1016651 wrote: Dave, you are absolutely correct in saying a store owner can give any discount they like to any individual they care too. No one has disputed that. However, ARC has set up requirements for stores to become a sponsor. Those sponsors are given privileges other businesses are not granted. In return, they agree to provide a discount to members of the club. Is it the way I would have set it up if I were the exalted ruler? Maybe, maybe not. But that is beside the point. Those are the rules that are in place and the job of the BoD is to ensure that they are adhered too.
Any member can propose a change to those rules should they feel a need and if they follow proper methods. Then, it would be up to the membership to vote on that change. I personally would not support it because I believe our sponsors bring a lot to the club that we wouldn't otherwise have. They therefore deserve a little preferential treatment over other non-sponsor businesses.
If you so desire, you are welcome to propose a change, or if you prefer, start a separate thread in the members only forum to discuss the possibility of a change. I personally don't see the need but maybe it is time it is fully discussed by the members of this club. And yes, that discussion should be limited to members only in my opinion.
