135g upper support

whats up, this might be a stupid question but i just got this tank, is about 72-18-23, when i got it you can tell that the plastic support has been broken for a wile, so its been up and running for a wile like that, and was wounderin if its really needed, it seems like with the wooden rim around the top and the canopy on it it might not need it, anyone have any thoughts on that? there is really nowhere to replace it with a new one, it is broken about level with the tank so a new one cant be riveted or screwed onto it.

I have seen several tanks (same dims) that are missing the support but there is a visible bow across the front. There is no way that is good. The older the tank gets the weaker the sililcone bond will become. There are several ways to create supports across the mid and you might want to consider it. A 4' tank you would probably be fine but 6' is alot riskier. There are several people on here that may be able to guide you.

It's definitely not okay to run an aquarium without the center support. You need to replace it before adding water.

If the tank was structurally sound without it, it would have come without it from the manufacturer.

I replaced the one on my 55. I got it from Sam(now hard to reach) with Aqua Buys. I am sure any of our sponsors could order one. I just told Sam I had a AGA tank and he called and I had it in 2 days.

Who is the mafg.? With just the dimensions I think anyone with the same dims. would work...

Easy to change. Just get the old one off without breaking the tank, add a generous bead of silicone to the grove of the new one. Slap it on and clean the bead of silicone. Celan up the mess and you are done. I did mine with the tank near full.

from the manufacturer. Each will have replacement parts available.

Check with a sponsor who carries the same brand tank; I'm sure they'll be able to order one for you.

solution found, i got some aluminum that has a 90 degree in it so its about 3/4" by 1/2" and just cut it how long i needed it, silicone about a 10" pice on the front and back so it is stuck to the glass and the upper frame but not noticable from the outside of the tank. so with taht on there it comes out a little bit further than the plastic rim and drilled holes in them and used a couple nuts and bolts to hold the braces in place, i feel like this is even more support than the stock plastic, and doesnt block any light! :yay:
