Hi guys, total noob here but I thought I would show what I have done (made a big mess). I am building an in-wall setup between the bathroom (non-ICUP) and our living/bar area in the basement.

Here is what I have so far.
Oceanic 150G side dual side overflow tank 74x24x24
CAD Lights Skimmer (Thanks Tinman)
40B sump
MAG 12 return pump
4 LED Light fixtures.

Edit: Some pics ? More to come.

Edit: Sawz-all and pipes don't mix

Propagation Tank. Live rock only in it, so I can collect good pieces now. Led fitxure installed. Have a wet-dry sump going in soon.

Looking good. I want to see this in person one day. Just remind me not to use the bathroom. Hehehehehe

It's all plumbed, so the moment of truth is almost here, about time to see if it leaks or falls over onto the floor.

Just my 2cents
Why not to go bigger with the sump when you have lots of space, I had a 150 and all I had for space was under the tank inside the stand but with my tank almost plug to my sump a external pump, 3 (6X20) MRC fluidized filters and large UV light, I think going oversize o filtration never hurts, especially when you want to overstock, then again, you have more space for a bigger sump, and adding more filtration.

Agreed a bigger sump will be better. I have a 64g acrylic design that I came up with for an exact fit. But that's a lil farther down the road. Just wanna check the design and get the baffles right before I trash $200 in acrylics

Still lookign good...

Hey, Man. Is your drain pipe sitting too low? I understand you are going with a full siphon from the design, but it looks like you are going to hear water draining into your overflow as it drops over the baffles to the level of your drain pipe...

Yeah that didn't work out too well. I am getting the "flushing effect" . I guess if I knew something about plumbing it would help.

Don't feel too bad. Welcome to the club. LOL...

A couple of things that I've learned from trial and error. You can run a full siphon, but it's a little difficult to tune just right. This is why most overflows allow some air to enter the drain pipe. Do a search on durso overflow and herbie overflow. They have some good DIY ideas. Unfortunately for folks like us, we can't do the bean animal

Also if you study the overflows that come with most already drilled tanks, they have holes in the side of the u-tube section at the top of the drain as well.

If done correctly, both are relatively quiet...

Question: In those pictures, the next to last one, you have a small chamber with some holes in the walls in a corner of your sump. What is this for?

I'm trying something out. It's a heater box, and it will slow down the water going into the fuge. good? bad? dumb idea?

Sounds good to me. But if you use a heater that requires a certain amount of flow you might end up having to take it out of there and put it in the return section. but you should still be able to manage the flow in the fuge area with the box there versus just letting the water rush in.

Very nice! I want an in wall tank when I grow up lol. Looks like someone actually did do research. Looking forward to see this tank complete :)

Ok so I took some of your advice and made a bigger sump. It's up and running with fresh water and quiet as can be.

Please forgive my ignorant question, but why the egg crate at the bottom of the sump?

I have it there so if I drop something I don't crack the tank. I dunno who's right or wrong, just sounds like a good idea.
