I'm in the next step of having a maturing tank!!!! Now I have lots of new stuff growing and of course being new to this stuff.........I think it's all BAD!!! Is there a reliable site to go to that I could identify the stuff I have growing? I've tried taking pictures, but apparently I need to invest in a nice camera. The wife ain't going to be up for that!

I believe there is a good post in the new member Q&A section that discusses good and bad hitchhikers.

This is about as good as I can get with a picture. I'm just looking at the growth at the top and the algae on the front of the PH. I'm thinking it's all good???? FYI..........the mesh is just some plastic needlepoint sheets I got from Micheals so that my RBTA didn't get pureed.

I also took a picture of the DT. I think it's progressing pretty good????

Just give it time and that should go away, you really shouldnt have all of your flow pointed up though

I have tons of flow throughout the DT. I find that if I point them more towards the bottom of the tank I get too much flow. The PH are both Koralia Evo 1450.

20% every other week!!!

Does wrapping the intake of the powerhead really keep stuff from growing on it (assuming that is why you did that)? I would have thought you just ended up with 2 levels of stuff to get clogged.

I added them to keep my RBTA from being sucked in. It worked the one time it tried to climb on the powerhead. Ever since then its found a home on the rocks.

My first reaction when I saw your pics is "how old are your bulbs?"

Bulbs go through a shift in K rating as they get older, and are more prone to produce algae that looks like that...... Just in my very humble, child-like opinion, which matters little in the grand scheme of things...... How's that for a disclaimer?

The complete set-up was new and started on November 28th, so bulbs shouldn't be an issue.
