i am setting up a regular 29 gal tank and was wondering what would be good filtration choice. i am wanting to make it a reef tank but i am not sure if this is possible. I was going with a cannister style filter but i am not sure which is good and what flow rate would be sufficeint. for lighting i have 175 watt MH or i ahve a 96 watt PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A good canister filter would be fine on that size tank.

The lighting sounds great either way, just depends what type of livestock you want to keep

You can do softies and some LPS with PCs just no SPS. I have mushrooms, frogspawn and blastos - big and small in a 11g nano for several years with 36 watts of PCs. You do not get as much growth but it works.

go MH, but dont put it too close to the water or you'll overheat the tank in no time.

A good working canister is good for filtration, but you'll need one or two power heads to keep things moving.

I have a rena x1 on my 30, and I like it.

I would also put a pair of korillia (sp?) 1s or nanos in there.

Skip the skimmer, and just do more water changes.

We have a 29 gallon and the nano Koralia's didn't give enough flow so go with Koralia 1's.
