I have a 300g tank that is 72"x36"x27" currently running 3 Orphek Icons but debating on changing lights. One reason is I'm not a fan of the orphek app, and another reason is they are kind of heavy. I originally wanted to run 3 kessil a500 with led bars for supplemental lighting. So I'm here looking for opinions from people with similar sized tanks and what is everyone running with similar sized tanks, pros and cons greatly appreciated.

I would roll with the orpheks and add some quanta helix led bars to supplement. You'll need a ton of those kessils and the pars not great.

The a500 i would only need 3 with led light bar supplement to minimize shadows, but I’m a big fan of shimmer and the Orphek’s give almost none

The pros are great and the new helix should be back in stock in January. The kessils are great for shimmer.

Add a couple kessils in combination with the orpheks and led bars if you want shimmer

After doing a little reading and research has anyone tried out the quanta atlas lights in combination with led bars? I’ve always been a big fan of halides and just found the atlas which is based on a 14k halide and with some led bars seems like it could be a sweet combination

Everyone i know that has it loves it. Par monsters and inexpensive at 500 for what you get.

After having to clean / replace fans on Radions I wont get those ever again.

Ive Got 8 A360x's and two XHO bars on my 330g. I have halides also but honestly the Kessils are capable of providing enough light all alone.

90% of choosing what LED you go with is spread. I though I could get away with 3-4 A500s but it would have resulted it hot spots with fast fall off in PAR and lots of shaded areas.

My only complaint is the kessil wifi thing hates to reconnect after a power outage.

that makes a ton of sense about coverage, and dont get me wrong the orphek icon are good lights, but the app is downright awful

I've been trying to find more info on them and which bars best suit them for color, which I know is subjective but they definitely need some blue bars for supplemental lighting

Quanta helix meso blue would be my choice. You can get the or4 bars....which aren't dual chip....like the previous line of quanta bars....the new helix is quad chip.

I don’t have a 300, but I do have a 180 on the way. I’m sure the 36” depth makes it difficult, I would build a 2020 t-slot aluminum frame and run 6 AI hydra 32’s, if the app is a big factor. I’m going to do something similar but with noopsyches and supplement with AI primes, but I don’t try for any sps - just lps. I have a PAR meter and am in Hamilton if you ever need to use it FYI.
