Hi guys, I've been missing from here for a couple of years now, I have to get rid of ALL my salt water stuff and focus on settling and biz but now I'm back!
I sourced a 55Gal tank, base and canopy, Reef Ready, unlike the 220Gal I bought last, I can afford to set up this one (I really miss that 220 Gal 7ft long tank!!!:shout::shout::shout::shout::shout::shout
Anyway, I broke it down, took everything apart, even the hinges, I am going to rebuild it from the ground up...............
This is my progress report:
Got the tank on Sat, Nov 14th, 55 Gal tank with one corner overflow, used as a fresh water tank previously, THANKS REGUS!!!
Tank was in good shape, Stand also, canopy had some dry rot on the inside, plus some mold, one flourecent light, hinges were rusted, had to hummer some out.
Loaded it with a friend, but had to unload it my self, borrowed my brothers SUV, got honked at by some old lady for driving too slow, ran into a deranged man walking on the middle of the road, had to swerve to oncoming traffic to avoid him, tank was intact, though it was a dumb risk NOT strapping it in, I was just excited to get a tank.............
Anyway, got it home ALL in one peice...............well technically in three peices.................
Fri, 20th:
I did not like the Light brown color, it looked like some type of Sweden/iKea anti-depressing furniture so I sanded it down and began painitng it black, in black I mean BLACK! As to the Home Depot Paint guru, that's the Blackest Black I could get............
Now, since I was too lazy (well, I was actually drunk and excited) to log onto Atlanta reefclub and ask what's the best paint to use that will withstand salt, I did what any self respecting tree shade/factory worker/biz guru would do and bought the strongest paint available, so I bought Behr OUTDOOR Black Paint..........
Wed, 25th Nov:
Got sent home from work since we are being paid for the holiday, they send us home a day and call it VTO (Voluntary Time Off), that's BS! I didn't want to go home since I had driven 20 miles and bought $15 worth of Zaxby's artery clogging but soul nourishing chicken basket, oh, and I had no $$ for Vanish (paycheck doesn't hit the acct till 3:00AM!!!).
This was a Bad thing for my party life but a good thing for my Aquarium Build since those who know me, know I am very, very, very, VERY Impatient.
Anyway, I will have the FIRST pics up sometime tomorrow, unfortunately the tank will be ALL black, I don't know if I can download the originals from my cell, but if I can I will add them too.
Thu, 25th Nov
Well, it's 2 Am and I finished painting my tank ALL BLACK, so tomorrow I plan on buying Outdoor Grade Waterproof Vanish to add that glossy look, wish me luck............
a side not, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO OIL PAINT?!!!!!!!! I went to home depot and they said they don't sell oil pain cause it's bad for the environment, which I think is a F$^%ing Hoax since the paint I use smells like concentrated amonia and weird chemicals that can get you high! Oil pain, ALL I would have needed was ONE, 1, UNO, SINGLE tub of paint and it would ALL be done, I would have had Black and Glossy, but with this other crap, I have to BUY BOTH BLACK AND GLOSSY to get the same look I would have had with one...........and then he tried to sell me primer too!!! WTH?!!!
Anyway, tomorrow I will go get the varnish, outdoor waterproof grade unless anyone has any objections..............and I will also post pics of the build.
