Im setting up a 75g reef. i've been out the hobby for about two years and it's finally calling me back. I Currently have the Tank, sump, stand and canopy. I also still have the rodi unit that i won for one of the meeting two years ago..lol

Im looking for ideas for my new setup. Im still in college so please keep that in mind:roll: . This hobby is expensive but worth every minute and dime. Also if anyone has anything for sale that would help out my quest please PM me.................................................Thanks everyone see you guys soon.

I don't know your budget, but have you considered a smaller tank? 48"+ tanks kind of represents a shift in the level of buy-in (of course it comes with the benefits of greater possibilities, too).

Maybe get a smaller setup running right and then move up if you find yourself in possession of extra $$$.

Not trying to dissuade you, but nothing sucks more in this hobby than getting 1/2 way there only to discover you've bitten off more than you can afford.

I think you can do it fairly cheap by buying quality used equipment. This forum is a great place to do just that.

It sounds like lights, a protein skimmer, and a return pump are your next purchases.

Lights: many options (Power Compacts, T5's, and metal halides) First you need to determine what type of corals, if any, you'd like to keep.

Protein skimmer: Best bang for your buck, imo, is the Octopus NW200. A step down would be the Coralife 225. A step up, the ASM G3. There are also many other options.

Return pump: You'll probably want one rated for about 600 gph. Is you sump plumbed for an external pump, or are you going to use a submersible?

I would check with Sal or Mike at Saltwater City to see what used equipment they have in the store. I recall seeing a few skimmers and lights last time I was there. If you want any zenia or yellow polyps when you get it set up, I can help you out!

Thanks for all the comments. I know the hobby is expensive but im ready for the challenge. I stopped partying a few months ago to save for a house and tank. I got the house now its time for the tank.....lol
Im gonna take it slow with the coral at first. I had a nano and i know since im just getting back into the hobby im gonna take it slow. I think im going to have live rock and sand, a few fish and a nice cleaning crew. Maybe in a couple of months i'll start with the coral and clams. This is a life long project, im in it for the long haul. Also whatever happened to the fishstore in Buckhead?

I just went to saltwater city and all I can say is WOW. Sal is a great guy he took his time explaining things to me and taking m money......lol

SWS is also gonna come by and help me setup my tank sunday. They have some nice live rock and there putting more in the store today. Im very excited about my tank......I figure that sunday's gonna be spend moving my live rock around...... Thank's everyone

Im also in the hunt for a u.v. if anyone has one and some live sand.....
