90 gallon

I just upgraded to a 90 gallon RR tank about 3 months ago and had the same debate. I was given a brand new mag 9.5 with the tank and had my mag 5 from my old tank at home. After I was done setting up the tank and transferring everything from my old 55 I hooked up the mag 9.5 first but my sump couldnt keep up with the volume and the water was going way too fast through my sump.

What I ended up doing was adding a ball valve to tone it down. Perfect setup, my mag 5 was about the same volume that I am running now. Like leveldrummer stated you want the skimmer to be able to do its job so 4-5 times the tank volume I found works for me.

I like to buy a pump rated for about 10x tank volume. This affords me the ability to tee off from the return line to run media reactors.

You should be golden with the 7. I use my 5 for water changes. Are you plumbing in a reactor or any extras? If so you might want to go bigger. I have my dual reactor separate but thinking about upgrading my sump to a ruby 30. My current sump can't keep up with the mag 9 wide open(way too much flow)

Yea that should work great! Let me know how it turns out. What sump are you going to run? I'm debating between a new sump or apex lite for my Christmas present lol
