Ok Reef addicts... I have a question. Maybe dumb, but I've only been at this for four months_And this is becoming harder than rocket science and more expensive than crack.

So, please, someone out there explain to me what in the world is going on with MH HQI?

And, can I supplement a need for 400W with a pair of 150W on HQI?

thanks,

I would not recomend using one 400 on a 72 bow front. your outer edges would have some magor light drop off. I would rather have two 150 radium lights over a 72.

It really boils down to what you want to keep, how you want it to look, how fast you want it to grow, and are you planing on using any other lighting with the MH.

MH HQI = Double ended lamps.

You can supplement a 400 watt with 2-150's ,175's ,250's or whatever you prefer. The real question is what do you intend to have in the tank????

I want to have some corals eventually... but I am going first for some live rock, fish and cleaners. so you say 2 X 150W and about how many K?

I would stick with 175 watt. You have more options as far as lamps are concerned. 15k Iwasaki's would be the trick.

besides the 15k Iwasaki's 175w what else?

I have night lights X2. would this be enough? (I posted what I'll be having above)

Well... but so what has more power... an HQI 175W or the single socket at 175W?

Here are some sites that might help. It also has a search you can use for lots of great info.
