So I have 3 Acans frags. Can I put them close to each other? Was thinking about spacing them out on one rock. I’m sure they will one day touch.

Yes, they can touch.

Generally speaking, corals of the same species are safe to touch each other. Corals of related species can sometimes touch (e.g. frogspawn and hammer corals, but not always torches).

The next issue is, far down the road, will one overtake the other entirely. For this, I think you are still safe with Acans... but some encrusters aren’t as fortunate.

I have found mine have always done best in the sand or low down and I have never had issues with them touching each other. :)

Not all acans will play together nicely, lords with lords, but not lords with bowerbanki. As long as they are the same species it will be OK. As far as placement, I have found that a an do well in lower light and flow areas, close to the same bed but not on it. If they are placed directly on the sand they won't be able to grow new heads so placing them on a small rock will help.
