This is my first acrylic tank and I would like to know how to clean it. I use a scrapper for acrylic and I have 50 snails (more to come). The tank has been setup for over a month and the coraline is wanting to take over. What can I do to make my life easier than the scrapping the acrylic (i.e. using a rag) and not scratch it?

Best to get the coraline early before it takes over. I got lazy and had a 2inches of it from the bottom of my sand. I ended up using one of metal attachments to get rid of it. The aqua mop attachment for the kent scrapper is good for quick cleaning. I heard that MRC had a acrylic scraper that was better than kent's. You have to call to get it.

simple solution to keeping acylic clean - throw it away and get a glass tank. I used to have an acrylic tank and no matter how hard i tried it got pretty scratched up. Dont arrange rocks or corals so they might falls against the acrylic. Leave plenty of space for your arm to move around. Clean every other day with the kent scraper. Dont buy a mag float unless you want scratches.

Believe me, this will be my first and last acrylic, unless weight is an issue.

I clean acrylic tanks 5 days a week. They're not that hard to keep clean and scratch free. Just like any job, you need to the right tools.

1. Kent Pro Scraper will handle most of what you're trying to do. I replace my kent blade weekly, sometimes more often. Your blade should last must longer. Flip it over to make it last longer.

2. Magnavore Pads for acrylic work really well for corners and are geat on a good magnet for soft algae. I prefer the Algae Free brand magnet scrapers. Magfloats aren't strong enough and Magnavores break.

3. We do have our own scraper at MRC. It's a material just softer than acrylic, so it gives you a pretty sharp edge that lasts a while. It works well on coraline. Call to order: Phone: (678) 407-3773

4. If you're going to clean the algae in front of your sand bed, remove the blade from your pro scraper, pull the sand back, replace the blade, and then clean the algae. Always do this last so you don't have sand floating in the water while trying to clean the higher sections of the tank.

5. Never clean a tank while you have sand floating in the water. Small pieces will land on your scraper and on your pads.

6. Watch what you're doing. A major scratch can be avoided if you're paying attention.

Wow they think a lot of them. I wish I had the $$ to purchase one. Until then I will just have to use my Kent scraper.

I said the same thing until I used them...now I'm convinced it was money well spent...I have ALOT of acrylic to clean ( 96" x 30" front and back)...and I can do it in under 10 minutes. Coraline and all. I bought two and still have one unused in the package. It is alot of $$$ though , I agree.
