Has anyone ever kept one of these and has some experience to share. Liveaquaria has a listing for them, and they are supposed to be reef compatible with caution. Interesting thing about them I have read is that they don't split, but bud off young by something called parthogenesis. The young can be a completely different color than the parent as well.

I don't have any experience with that species, but I would love to learn about it. It seems to be a good experiment to see what happens with it's "clones".

I bought some of these off an ebay auction. They are actually coming to me via airmail from England. Got 10 for about $40 shipped. I emailed the seller and he said they are good for up to 12 days in transit, so we shall see!:D

Supposed to be 1-4 cm in diameter, and add 2 cm when expanded.

I'm happy to be the guinea pig to see if they survive shipping from GB, but if anyone wants the auction link, PM me. I'll report back in this thread when I get them.

O ye of little faith.;)

The anemones came in to day with the mail. There was no leakage, but I could smell the odor of decay slightly coming from the box. Opened up the box (about 5"x5"x5") and the water was so dark looking it was a dark grey color. I thought "'Nem soup." Opened it up and emptied it into a specimen cup and the stench was like 10 rotting Mexican Turbo Snails at once. Made me gag, literally. No way anything could survive this, I thought. 8 days in transit from the UK to here. So I started a slow drip and just removed water as the specimen cup filled up. I think some of these things are alive. At least they are still solid and not goopy. So after a while I touch one of them and it's foot is holding onto the specimen cup!

I can only think that these guys must be engineered to go through some pretty tough times in their native waters to be able to live in that sea of ammonia they were swimming in while shipping to me.

Gotta go now. They continue to drip acclimate and I'll update the thread later. The Seller sent 12. I ordered 10. I think there are a couple tiny babies in the cup as well.

The customs declaration said "Coral Balls."

I can't wait to c what they look like

Edit: I can't wait to c what they look like

Wet Web Media describes the UK origin anemones as cold water animals. The ones from the west coast of Africa are more likely tropical. The UK ones might not fare so well in tropical aquaria, but I'm interested to see how they go.

It sure is nice looking though.

i can't believe that they really ship those things over an 8 day period and it doesn't kill all the livestock..
