I was thinking about installing my vho's again, but doing it a little differently.

They get in the way if I install them lenthwise in the tank, so I was thinking about running them perpendicular. I would add them in between the mh's. Would this be okay? Would it give me the same/similar effect? Any drawbacks?

It should be just fine that way--I don't forsee any particular drawbacks, as fluorescent light spreads pretty evenly.
