I had overfloating in a skimmer a few times in the past. I learned the trick that works for me. Put the towel on the top of the skimmer cup to cover all the holes. Once the cup fills, the skimmer will stop producing but would still stay running.

Long term solution: I need to add float switch to Skimmer cup like Dave mentioned in this thread: http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=84210">http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=84210</a>

Last night I put all together and it works great.

APEX Controller
APEX Break Out Box
ATB Skimmer Cup
Digital Aquatics Float Switch
RadioShack Wire and Quick Connector/Disconnector
3/8" tube

Drill one of skimmer cup hole bigger (3/8")
Insert 3/8" tube through that hole. It's a bit tigh that what I want. Adjust float switch level by push down or pull up the tube

Great post!!! Thanks for sharing. I had a similar setup going that wasn't all that consistent. Another fringe benefit for this is that it can keep your skimmer overflow from triggering your ATO, and eventually leading to a flood or fluctuations in salinity.
I also assume this can be programmed to email you once it is triggered...

or you can tell the skimmer to shut off if this switch is triggered

Both actions: shut off the skimmer and send email or text. It's nice to know what happens when you're away from home
