After having my Octo Extreme 160 for almost two years I decided it's time to improve it a little. I've been running my sicce pump meshed for a while now and it's been working great and pulling out some nice gunk. But, I am tired of the pump stopping and not re starting on it's own. I've had to blow in the air intake line every time to get the pump started. I've got one heck of a busy sump and it's difficult to get in there to mess with the pump.

I ordered a Bubble Blaster 2000 and let me tell ya this thing is a beast! The pump is a good 2 times larger than the sicce and can be ran out of water for external skimmers if need be.

here's the space i'm working with:

I have the SRO 5000 on order. I can't wait till it arrives!

You are going to crap your pants when you get it. I had a long conversation with the makers of the RO skimmers and how they have come a long way. The new pumps are insane! I would compare them to the Red Dragon pumps in quality and performance IMO. And the new line of SRO skimmers are CHEAP compared to similar performing skimmers.

Yeah I've done a lot of research on them. Huge thread over on RC about the BB pumps. They have also done pros and cons against the RD and like pumps. People are very impressed with them, since the 2000 pump. I can only imagine what the 5000 will do! Glad you're liking it so far :) I've been a huge fan of RO for some time now, and the fact that they are coming out with some skimmers/pumps to be in the range of the big dogs, makes me very happy!

Funny, I had the SRO 5000 on order until I went with a larger sump and couldn't fit an external anywhere, hence the internal Vertex alpha cone.

Jaustin: Can the the 160 stand on it's platform with the bigger pump under it, or did you have to mod it?

You can fit the pump under the 160 if you open up hole in the bottom a little bit. I just glued a union to the bottom so i could still fit the sicce in when i go to sell the skimmer...whenever that might happen. The skimmer sits on the BB2000, it's that solid of a pump.

Where did you order the BB pump from. Im consiidering ordering one for the MSX-300 which is the same as the Octopus extreme 300

Doesnt that beast actually have 2 pumps?

Nice upgrade, looks like it's really kicking some butt there!

Lee you'll have to let us know how that pump on the 5000 works for you. I contacted CoralVue about what they would recommend as a replacement for the sicce 2500's on my Ext 250 and they told me I should go with one BB 5000 and they'd also provide a cap for the second pump port. I'm also getting really tired of having to manually restart those suckers.

You cap off the 2 pump holes and tap a hole for the Askoll pump. the askoll is 75.00 more then the bubbleblaster but some say its worth the extra money.if you run 2 Askoll its too much even if you by the extended neck. Some run an extended neck it cost 90.00 and only cap off one Sicce pumps.
