My daughter has vacuumed a lot of her sand while cleaning tank in 8 months. She ordered 20 pound bag. What’s process of adding new sand to tank?

I've put it into a 32 oz. QT cup and slowly put it where I wanted on the bottom with the flow turned off, worked very well
Tank is 20 gallons. How many pounds should she put in at one time?

If it's live sand I don't see any problem putting it all in, maybe somebody else has more experience. If dry I would probably add a little at a time. You could add a little at a time even if it's live just to be safe.
