Adding vs.Dosing

This is probably a no brainer for some but I'd rather ask the question and be sure. When putting additives in the tank, in this case magnesium, the directions say to "add" a certain amount to increase the level and then "dose" to maintain a certain level. I assume "add" to mean, make the stock solution and pour it in the sump. I also assume "dose" to mean mix the stock solution with a gallon or 2 of water and drip into the sump over time. The reason I ask this is because I've been trying for 5 days to "add" magnesium (using Brightwell's Magnesion-P) to bring my level from a very steady 1000ppm to around 1250 and then "dose" to maintain. The magnesium is at a stubborn 1000 and holding. The tank params are in check and the Seachem test kit proved good via the reference solution. Am I supplementing it wrong by "adding" 8oz of solution direct to the sump or should I slow drip?

Thanks.

Get some BRS MG. You can use their calculator to see how much you'll need and buy accordingly. I got a gallon, split is with another reefer, and still have plenty left, and my MG is up around 1500 now.

Go and get you some Epsom salt. It's not salt at all it is Magnesium sulfate! It's only 4$ for 4 POUNDS!!!.
I raised my MG from 900 to 1250 in a week.Mix up a gallon of water to about 1lb of "salt" and start dripping.
