ADVISE - Check your refractos

Acroholic said Keen has it for ~$3 (other stores?), or test against someones you know works, or you can make your own-instructions below.

QUOTE]Yeah I saw that, Keen Reef is a 50 minute drive in each direction for me. I was hoping someone closer to me had some available. I also don't like the idea of making my own calibration solution as I come into play as the human element in that scenario and could screw up the mixing. Then I could be in a worse situation than before. So, anybody got some they know is good on this side of town

I have some. Like I said, I would be willing to bring it to the next meeting.

Also, I have to agree with checking regularly. After seeing and posting in this tread, I checked my own. My refractometer read 39ppt with the reference solution (I must have bumped the set screw a few times). My tank was at 31-32ppt (maybe why I have had some issues lately). It is now slowly coming back up.

just get some pinpoint calibrating fluid from keen or online. You need to have a point of reference that is accurate. Everything else that you test for already has a decent margin of error, never-mind if your salinity is not 1.026 or 35. This would mean all parems are off including ALK, Calcium, mag, etc.

3 bucks every 2 years or so......................

I have some if u want to stop by..........
