If I buy coral from a store whose tanks have many aiptasia in them, or if some one gives me a piece if live rock that has some on it...is there something I can do to get rid of them before they spread? I was hoping there was some type of did, but if it kills the aiptasia, I'm guessing it would kill everything else?

IMO, you're better off to pass on adding anything to your tank that came from a known source of aiptasia. Even in quarintine you may not see them right off and everything appear to be fine. I've had LR in a tub for several months w/ no water changes and no heater only to have them survive. There are ways to rid them but once they are introduced, it's an uphill struggle all the way. Kalk paste has been effective for some. Commercially available, AiptasiaX has had good results.

ive actually used the reef grade epoxy(the kind you attach corals with)....fan the aiptasia back till it closes up....(if its in a hole it work even better....just place a small amount over its hole and leave it for about 3-4 days then pop off the epoxy and no aiptasia

Find you some true peppermints and don't worry about it. I haven't seen any aiptasia in over a year in my tank, right after I added my pep's.

Could be a problem with really pourous rock and the fact that aiptasia can go without light for awhile. Best to pass on the coral or get a cheap 10gal with some peps for quarantine. Afterwards ya have a cool pep tank......til the next coral purchase
