I am getting air bubbles out of the sb. I was under the impression once your that the air bubbles were part of the nitrogen cycle and that the cycle was a one time deal. But I have read that the nitrogen is a ongoing cycle? Which is correct. I also read somewhere that when air bubbles appear to clean the sand bed , but I have also read clean the sand bed is a bad thing due to stir containments up. I am confused due to contradicting answer/ suggestion.

Any clarification would be great

Tank has been up and running for about 2 1/2 months. I have diatom in tank that my turbos snails are eating. I have between a 3-4" sb. The bubbles are coming from 1 1/2" deeper than the diatom on top of sb.

This the 2nd time that I have had the bubbles.

You get lots of differing answers but in my opinion, vacuum the sand when you do water changes. If you start now before lots of nasty's build up in the sand it wont be a problem and will keep the sand in good condition. If you wait until stuff builds up in the sand, it could release the nasty's into the water column but at 2-1/2 month I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

The Nitrogen cycle is always</em> happening. We "cycle" our tanks in the beginning in order to build up colonies of bacteria that convert nitrogenous waste materials into usable forms for organisms. Urea/Ammonia are the common nitrogenous wastes from animals. Ammonia is very toxic. Some bacteria convert ammonia to nitrites. Different bacteria convert nitrates to nitrates. Nitrates are needed by the producers in our systems. They are also less toxic than the other N-forms.

We have to let the tank "cycle" at the beginning in order to build up the bacteria that drive nitrogen breakdown. If we added fish or other animals at the very beginning they are subjected to often lethal levels of toxic nitrogen compounds.

How I understood from the reading that we have done. Vacuuming the sb was a bad thing due stirring up ditirus( maybe spelled wrong).

Edit:

I understand the nitrogen is on cycle. The tank cycle right a
Month. My question which was not clearly stated. Will/ should there air bubbles again nothing that has been read clearly states yes there will or no there will not.
