Am I crazy ?

I've been working on a 40gB for a frag tank, but I'm having evil thoughts of taking my 120 down and just having the 40 as the display.....

anyone else ever have these evil thought patters?

what is going on ?

if you're giving away the 120 I'll take it, I want to go bigger just don't have the funds...lol

I can see how the maintenance would be easier on a smaller system, but I'm a little concerned with the stability.
I'm happy with the time requirement of the 120, and don't think I'll ever go bigger than 200.

I also have some pretty large SPS that just plain won't fit vertically in the tank..

I donno... just an idea to kick around

haha thanks for the offer :) If the 120 goes, it would be a sale, ":) I have a lot invested in that tank, from the reef computer to the bubbleking skimmer

Although a smaller tank would be cheaper and seemingly easier to maintain I hate to give up the vista....

Matter of fact, the 20 has no sump and just an HOB skimmer and mecanical filter and I haven't lost anything. (But the water is dirty and I fight algae all the time, so I do believe it's not perfectly stable.)

Ya I could conceivable fit another 30g under there to come up with around 80g of water....

Trade my BKmini200 in for the BKMini180.. use my 2 MP40s and go from there....

still... i donno.. we will see how this progresses

But my hands are starting to crack a lot lately (I think from age) and I'm less inclined to do maintainence, so I'm looking for the lazy man's reef now, even if it means not having as much to look at. Good luck with your choice. I know it's not easy and you will change your mind a million times.

you know this particular tank ISN'T hard to keep really... I'll get blasted for this but I RARELY and I mean RARELY test for anything at all except ALK... my spider senses kick in I think haha...

I don't run ANYTHING other than a kalk reactor, and ATO and skimmer to keep things going....

Man I went from 150 to 120 to now a 60. While it has been easier to maintain, I really miss the larger tanks. The flexibility of the larger tanks and also the stability. Think before you leap bro, all I'm going to say.

noted.
I REALLY wish I had room to tie the 2 systems in together....

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

To keep it simple and answer your question, yeah your crazy! lol Just getting into the hobby I could not imagine going smaller. By the way your tank is impressive.

When I left the hobby a while back I had a 150. Now I have a 34G Solana and love it. It is packed but I don't think I am going to go bigger...

I see where you're coming from man. Life was a lot simpler when I first got into the hobby and all I could think about was "bigger" :)

I can see how a smaller tank would offer just as much self satisfaction, but I also get a kick out of folks coming over and getting glued to the tank as it sits in the living room

I saw your 150 cube yesterday Nate.

My 93 is perfect for me.... Big enough to have a few prized pieces, but not sooooo big that it cost a ton to maintain.

Large tanks are great, but I am not home enough to monitor a large tank, and don't have the time to correct issues in a big tank. In my 93, if there is a problem, it doesn't take much effort to do a 50% water change.

Small tanks can be just as nice as a big one, just have to respect the fact that you will be more limited.

Edit: I still consider the 93 a nano.

ok. .. I think these are going to remain 2 distinct systems. I have the equipment, minus the actual t5 lamps for the breeder.. so why not.
