I feel dumb, but I've never had the problem before. I always test, but never had anything but 0.

I had a fish die (and disappear so I wasn't able to get him out), so I assume that is the cause for the spike.

I am doing daily 1g changes (13g tank) and I replaced my carbon and phosguard. I did also replace my sediment filter pads which may have temporarily reduced my bio control a little.

After 3 days it went up from .5 to 1.0, so I think I'm missing something simple.

Throw some Seachem Stability in there. It'll help rapidly break down the ammonia.

I used Seachem Stability, dry rock, and crystallized ammonia to cycle my tank way back when...

I'll give the stability a shot. Thanks for the input!

I thought prime was just for dechlorinating?

I am on the fence about prime and ammonia. Not whether it works to bind it up, but rather if that is the appropriate "band-aid". If there is ammonia in an aquarium, then there is not enough bacteria to process the ammonia.

The ammonia feeds the bacteria and causes it to reproduce. If you are lacking bacteria, is taking away it's food source a good idea?

sorry about your loss
prime is good it binds to the ammonia and nitrates so the bio filter and skimmer has a easier time dose it slow though as it works fast and can shock your corals from the rapid removal

rt i have ben using it the past month like you would vodka with great results and it dus not mind if you miss a day or 2

You've been using prime like vodka? Huh. First I've heard of that. What is in prime? Smells like something sulfur. Were you having issues before, or just curious?

no issues i started back dosing vodka but ended up dosing my self with the bottle and didnt leave eny for the fish
i did have one of my finger dragonites die (crushed by a fallen coral due to my rabitfish and tang fighting)behind the rock and couldn’t git to him
prime seams to work the same it turns the bad stuff in to good stuff that the bio filter and my skimmers take care of. im also seeing more polyp expansion in my lps and sps
im not like most reefers i will try new things with my tank sum times it works sum times it dusnot live and learn

I hear that. Someone has to be a pioneer! I'd still like to know what prime is made of.

its made of the stuff that makes your gentleman jungle tingle

yea but if your going to pioneer in this hobby post it on rc you will better off then here

Any idea how to remove 583ppm from 250,000,000 million gallons??? Just a little project I'm working on...not kidding. :yikes:

It's been a little while since school, I take it that's 250 MGD right.
Would you use the Davidson Pie Chart:

Chemical Feed = (Flow, MGD)(Dose, mg/L)(8.34 lbs/gal)

Are you talking a drinking water project or a wastewater project

1 Gallons = 3785.41178 Milliliters you would need 1ml per gal there is roughly
326,000,000,000,000,000,000 gallons in the ocean so you would need
86,120,089,159,800gal of prime to treat it but given the state of the oceans it would cause a massive change more then ilkley killing off all reefs in a day due to mass shock but it gits worse prime only cleats for 24hrs after that it re releases the nitrate back in to the water so it would be a double shock.
in order for prime to work your skimmer and bio filter have to be able to remove the cleated element. the oceans bio filter is maxed out around every content and i doubt it would be able to handle such a large amount of bio fuel at one time

this is what got me to use it instead of vodka prime binds with the nitrate molecule and turns it in to a source of carbon for your bacteria and filter feeders with out the risk of stressing your corals as long as you go slow 1 (5ml) cap per day per 100g for the first week then up the dose to the recommended levels. i went a lot faster the first time i tried this most of my corals were fine but my birds nest browned down they didnt die and are coloring up nicely all sps and lps were fine

I think I'll stick with GFO or the like...a gazillion gallons of Prime seems a bit...well...you know.

This a underground silo that is on the verge of breaching, actually breaking the silo apart, and spilling into a very human populated area. It would be as devastating as the gulf oil spill...

The Phosphate levels are over 800ppm, forgot the exact but hey, once you get over 500, who's counting.

were is the silo? you had posted 250,000,000 million gal so i red it as 250,000,000,000,000,000 gal sorry but prime would not help that at all and is something the army corp of engineers should be informed about.
