I got a new bubble tip anenome a few days ago. It has been expanding greatly during the day and looks very healthy, however during the night it shrivels up and the mouth starts to gape open. When the lights come back on it takes it a few hours to open back up again. Any idea what could be wrong? MY parameters are all fine.

It wouldn't hurt to read up on the sea anemone, but they do a WC once or twice a day and look pretty sick. It's normal for them to shrink up at night.

Doesn't seem like anything is wrong. Nems will do that at night. The open mouth could be from it "pooping" or it may be ready to eat.

Just keep an eye on it and when its happening. Normal for most nems, worst thing you can do is start trying to change things.

Should I attempt to feed it? Ive had it for 5 days so it may be too soon to feed it.

I feed my nem at least twice a week. I generally take a small syringe full of food and squirt it in the direction of its mouth. Others have been known to feed the nem silversides.

Good luck

Anemones don't need to be spot fed, they will pick up enough from the water column to stay alive. However, they will grow much faster if spot-fed once or twice a week. They will eat literally anything meaty.

I wouldn't try to feed it anything for a week or two; let it settle in first. It wont like immediately die if you don't feed it; so long as you have the lighting to support it. May do more harm that good trashing your tank in an attempts to "make sure" its getting its requirements. Most of the time I don't even feed mine, it catches stuff out of the water column or my clowns give up their food.
