hmmmm im OUT of room in my sump...

can I run some reactors externally, or is it time to invest in another .. larger sump?

Don't know why you can't have it setting outside the cabinet. I've thought about doing this myself...

Oh yeah, I would say very few people run them internally.

Agreed.... but is there a reason not to? Precautions would be needed to contain any leaks. But in theory it should be doable.

Some people also sit the CA reactor in their sump... if there is room.

Oh well.... so many toys, so little room!

If the reactor is built well & designed properly, it won't leak. Of course, anything can happen, so if you're that worried about it, you'd have to contain the unit somehow.

ANYTHING is prone to leaks then (sumps, overflows, etc). IMO, running it in sump will only add heat (from a submersible circulation pump). There is no reason to be afraid to run it externally.

ahhh.. being the noob i am to the world of ca reactors I assumed the reactor pump would drop inside the tank... didn't think it was a recirc pump or something.

here is the package i'm looking at.

I get almost 1 year on a 10 lb. tank fill running 2-3 drips per sec.

You'd be better off with an MRC CR-2, dual chambered reactor. It would be roughly the same price, but a better reactor. Add the spray bar and it will hands down destroy the 612.

Heck, join the ARC and save even more with the member discount.

A dual chamber reactor will give the water a 2nd pass over the media and help to return the PH closer to normal before returning it to the tank. It will still return low but not nearly as low as a single chamber unit. Tank buffers will not have to work as hard. :)
