Is 3 150 watt metal halide bulbs enough to get nice growth on LPS on the bottom of a 125 gallon (20 inches high) fish tank? Thanks for your thoughts.

I have 3 250's on my 125 and it does great on lps and sps

It would work fine but the 250 would give you more options down the road. There other things to consider though such as heat.

If I was going to do mostly lps I would look at a good t-5 fixture and I am a hard core MH guy.

I've done the T5s and I'm not impressed. I did it for a year after my MHs before and the color just wasn't as good. I love metal, I just don't want to go in under powered. However, heat is a big deal. It maybe time for a good chiller again.

I used to run 150 de mh's on a tank that was 20" (actually 19" to surface because of the sand) and was able to grow sps, clams and actually too much gsp! :D I don't think you'll have any issues...
