I returned home to day to see what looks like to be thousands of parasites in my tank. The tank has been setup close to a month with nothing except live rock, astria snails, and blue leg hermits in the tank. The tank is just getting over the green algae bloom this week. Ive never seen these organisms before and absolutely clueless as to what they may be. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

These guys are slightly larger than a flea with what looks to be a clear exoskeleton and a red/brown tinted inside. They have antennas and tiny legs.

Copepods or amphipods (the size is hard to guage). You should capture them all with a brine shrimp net and give them to me for disposal. :)

Good to have, and good food for many fish.

EDIT: just saw your size description.... amphipods I think.

you want a bunch, yes, but too many could mean that you are not exporting enough nutrients...............what you put in, needs to be put out.

Lol I totally wasn't expecting pods when I read the title.

Yeah pods are awesome. Free fish food. If you want them gone invest in a wrasse or a mandarin. :)

Just to give you an idea what you have for free. Some people as paying this for them.

Buy 500 pods @ 16.99+8.99 shipping.

Follow this link to everything you ever wanted to know about them and more.

It's funny, 2 days after I posted this they all seemed to disappear. Still only have snails and hermits in the tank.
