Any ideas what this could be for?

I'm working out a deal for a 58 Gallon Oceanic Tank right now but the seller won't break up so I'm gonna have to get a few things I really don't need. I've seen some threads in diffrent places where people have modded Canister Filters into something else so I'm sure somebody can come up with something for this.

You can use a canister filter as a media reactor straight up no mods and most work great. Not sure exactly how this one works so not sure if you can do it with this design.

Make it a phosphate reactor by putting phosphate adsorbing (or is it absorbing???) media in it...
