Just wondering if anybody has ever run one of the Marineland Eclipse systems as a reef? I am curious to how well it works. Any overall issues that anybody has had.

I have an Eclipse all in one hood that I have been running on a 10 gal. It worked ok. I upgraded the lighting. The biowheel I did not use, so it's like new. I will be changing out to an LED hood soon.

I have a 37 gallon I run with an Eclipse hood. There's a PC retrofit out there somewhere, but I haven't gotten it. Right now I just have LR, a couple of clowns and some softies. The light in there now is having a hard time keeping palys open, so I can't imagine it will do much more than shrooms. I put my heater where the carbon cartridge goes, and I have LR rubble where the bio wheel would normally go.

I'm probably going to ditch the hood and just mount a small T5 fixture over it with a couple small power heads. If the one you're looking at has T5s, I'd say you're OK.

It has fuge plumbed in with chaeto in it, but most of the filtration is via carbon dosing + skimming.

I have a 25 gal eclipse, I switched out the PC to LED...the rest is stock. Its a QT but has recently been homing some fish and coral while I sort out the 180

Gary's Eclipse used to be mine. I ran it ~10 years ago with a PC retrofit which was the technology of the time. I kept seahorses in it with some softies and macros.

You don't need a biowheel at all (needs nothing to 'replace'... if you have live rock).
