How long was the break in? I ran it for about 12 hrs in a bucket of RO water and vinegar and then moved it back to the tank. I have it pretty high, about 5" or so depth and it I can't stop it from going totally bonkers. There is literally no dicernible difference between that and 9+" of water. Does it need a valve on the air intake?

The adjustment is backwards from what most people think it to be.
Turn it all the way the other way, to start.
If it still overflows, take the cup off, may take a day or two.
After it settles down, put the cup back on.
Then gradually adjust to barely get foam up to cup.
About 7 inches works.
