anybody ever shop at http://www.aquatraders.com/">http://www.aquatraders.com/</a>

a friend of mine has bought a couple lights from these folks and swears hes never had a issue.

What lights? I know the halides do not produce the said amount of watts causing problems with the ballast. The 250 only puts out 175 so that upgrade is needed. I'm sure others will chime in and even send links about these fixtures. My opinion is to spend a little more or buy used on here rather than experience a headache
Be wary. I would hate for you to have a fire based on this product

i want to say i have but not completely sure, it's been awhile back, bought a 196 watt cf fixture with fans and moon light and it was junk. be very careful what you buy where. thought i was saving money and ended up short the dough and light went in the garbage.

Purchased my first set of MHs from them.
Thought to myself "self, you just saved some money.....way to go!"
Doing some work around the house and smelled something burning and noticed that one of the ballasts of my nice new MH lights was blowing smoke out of one end and flames out of the other end. Well, I replaced the ballast and things went smoothly for the remaining months. Then I needed to replace the bulbs. Went out and bought new 20K bulbs for it and then put them in. Turned switch on and.......Nothing! Put a meter on it and the ballasts were kicking out around 150 watts when they should have been 250. Oh and not to mention that the actinics went out a while back. They now reside in a corner of my garage so that they cant hurt anybody and perhaps one day be used for spare parts.
Bought used MHs from a memeber here and zero issues for the last 2 1/2 years
Hey, do what ya want to do and order from who you want. Personally to save a few bucks isnt worth the risk and the hassle of these pieces of junk.

If that's Odyssea crap - come on in Rick, I've got a used set in a few pieces you can check out. Garbage.

Your LFS is a great place to buy lights or retrofit kits.

Jenn ;)

oh jenn, you do have that huge light that i want sooooo badly.
just dont have the funds. nice lights at a great price too. ive spent many of nights looking at this aquarium with visions of those lights on top. :D
kirsten says "i know what your doing". lol i tell her to stay out of my visions until we have cash. lol she laughs

That huge light is sold anyway. I have the 4' one left but since we now know you have a 6' tank...

:)

just curious, how many watts is that one ya have left?
could hang in a hood couldnt it? that would leave a foot on each side for corals that dont require such heavy lighting like zoas and shrooms right?

Won't work. Yes you could hang it but both MH would hang pretty much right over the braces.

if the world was a desert and there were 1 rusty nail out there somewhere, i swear i would step on it. thats just my luck.

Stay away from those. A friend bought one many years ago and it worked great until the ballast cooked...replaced it and then the other cooked...then junked it. Call up Marine Fish as of yesterday they had a few Coralife MH units for 40% off. Sorry I cant remember the prices off hand.
