I am thinking of building a large concrete aquarium in my basement. I have read a few articals. Has anyone locally done it? Thinking of 8'x6'x5', the viewing window would be about 7'x4'

That would be pretty awesome let me know when that works out for you

that would be really cool. I have seen pictures online, but the only concrete aquariums that I am aware of are at the Georgia aquarium

if you're only concerned with having one side viewable, why don't you build one out of acrylic? You can use thinner than usual for that size and reinforce it all the way around. The front pane can be thicker acrylic than the rest.

Hello on this subject I have helped build 2 saltwater concrete ponds. The first was in a fish shop where I was working. The second we build was in a night club in Buckhead. Both worked great the framing was center block walls supported by rebar and back filled with concrete. Next we placed a koi pond liner on the inside of the pond and filled with rock, sand, salt and fish. We did use a custom made wet dry and skimmer. The block wall was covered by wooden post and the 3 windows were of very thick plexi glass. I cant find my pics at this time for the pond inside the night club or I would post them it was a prize to see.
