I took this picture this morning, I suspect that I suprised it when I turned the lights on about an hour early..

It used to be dug in like a tick between the GSP (purple mantle) and the live rock..

I chose manual removal..

Yes, like any other anemone, they move.......

One way that I tried of removal (that actually worked) was to place a rock or shell over an area of aiptasia to block out light, and wait for them to climb up on the new rock to get to the light, then just dump that rock in vinegar a few secs, rinse, and move the rock to a new spot. I stopped that method as the process was slow, but would work well if you only had a couple of anemones to remove.

incidentally... does anyone know what that bright green thing is on the GSP mantle? (I assume some sort of sponge)

so I guess just about anything that looks like a little blob, possibly slightly furry is a sponge... (at least that's been the case so far for me)

That's pretty much the rule of thumb I use. White/yellow/tan & furry = sponge.

OK... NEW QUESTION....

the little green sponge... it looks to have either a valve or a tube coming out of it... any ideas?

? really... I guess it just looks huge for the size of the sponge... I've got other sponges that don't appear to have anything like it..

They do, just not that big. It's like a blow hole, ........ possibly a suck hole, I'm uncertain, but they assist the sponge in taking in oxygen and nutrient
