anyone have a reef octopuss bh-100 skimmer?

i hope i set this thing up correctly. The collection cup is just supposed to do far enough to where it covers the little hole isnt it? Did i set this up correctly? Thanks.

Lower and raise the collection as needed to get the bubbles to rise into the cup. In the picture, it looks like you need to lower the cup a bit.

how far into the cup do the bubbles need to be? up to the top? it isnt collecting anything.. i guess thats why

Edit: i pushed the cup all the way down and bubbles are right at the top of the rim of the cup. ugh.. the seaclone was so much easier. why does it have to be such a pos. lol.

Is that a new skimmer? I have the same one - well had</em>, until I went to a larger tank, and for the first few weeks, all it would do is just fill with clear water, or the bubbles would never reach the collection cup, depending on where I positioned the cup.

I asked the guy at my LFS, and he said the skimmer had to "cycle", that i should just keep the cup level where the water wouldn;t overflow too frequently, and keep emptying the cup - and I quote here - 'back into the return chamber of the skimmer' - until it started behaving right.

True to his words, after two weeks, the bubbles started to rise just enough to deposit this brownish stuff into the cup, and it worked great until I removed it from service.

Edit: P.S. I was discouraged about that skimmer too, until it started working. Then I was very happy with it.

Edit: Sorry, one more thing. They told me at the LFS that I should stick that small, gray plastic 'thing' that connects to the air line into the upper opening of the T-fitting that returns the water to the tank. Don't know if that matters, but I did, and it didn't hurt at all...

Great thanks! I was wondering about that.. They look like they should fit together. This morning i scraped a bunch of algae off the glass and it skimmed it all and filled up the cup with the dirty brown water so im satisfied now.. Cant wait til its broken in then im sure it will really do a good job. Thanks bud!
