Anyone using Lanthanum chloride?

I've been reading up on different methods of phosphate control in reef tanks. I don't have a problem currently (in fact, I just read 0.00 off the Hanna photometer, although I think that may be suspect), but I'm interested in keeping it as low as possible before a problem starts.

So... does anyone have any experience with Lanthanum chloride? From what I've found:
Lanthanum binds free phosphate directly to produce an insoluble lanthanum phosphate salt which is a very fine salt. It acts QUICKLY and should be removed via mechanical filtration. Pros of lanthanum include ease of use, speed of action, and it's way more cost-effective than GFO. Cons include it's still relatively unknown what any longterm effects are, it does decrease carbonate (alkalinity) slightly, and the speed with which it clogs up mechanical filtration does require frequent cleanings.

I've read about very good results from a number of aquarists, but seems to be a bleeding-edge type technology thus far...
