i picked up my eel on tuesday and he ate that morning
he doesnt seem interested in anything i put in front of him. how long before i need to worry about him not eating

Umm how big was his meal? My golden moray eats like once every 3-10 days

I had a 2' snowflake. he ate a shrimp a day. for weeks then would not eat for a week. They choose when to be hungry

eels can go 3 to 4 weeks with out eatting i have a 3 foot zebra eel i feed him 1 a week

Concur with the others. In the wild they might not be successful at hunting every day. Feed it to satiation once or twice a week, if it will eat, but don't sweat it.

What are you offering it?

They are also largely nocturnal so if you're trying to feed it during the day, that might not be the best time. They are much more active at night so try feeding it after lights out.

Be sure you have a cover on your tank too - they like to go carpet surfing. They can live surprisingly long out of water but it's never a good thing to have happen. If it doesn't have a hidey hole, a length of PVC works well as a cave (you can conceal it under rocks if you wish.)

he comes out at night and goes nuts. he is flyin all over the tank almost like he is playing..freakin awesome display.
they said he likes silversides but he shows no interest. it only been 4 day but they said he eats every three

They are more crustacean eaters than fish eaters. Try some krill, or clams or something other than fish.

i have 15 hermit crabs and a few snails .. will he eat those if he gets hungry

also bought some ghost shrimp but they too got ignored

I'm no eel expert, but I don't think they will eat shelled creatures. Their teeth are needle-like and better suited to soft meaty food.

I wouldn't freak out. They don't eat very often in some cases (like snakes).

Oh, and my recent Rants and Complaints thread was NOT about you or this thread... you are asking a very reasonable question at an appropriate time with no stupidity involved. :)

ive read a lot of info on this guy before i bought him but i get like this with all my new fish

sometimes i almost love them to death (literally) i know i should just let him get used to the tank but i want the best care for him as well

i feel better about a new addition after i see them eat

They love cleaner shrimp. I remember I had 2 huge ones that I had for years. I bought a snowflake and put him in my tank not knowing that they eat shrimp. After 10 minutes he ate both shrimp and I returned him to the store I bought him from very well fed.
