so just had a scary 2.5 hours. Got home from work and lights on the tank were off... somethings wrong. Go to the display and it's totally frozen and buttons don't work. Hmm... maybe cycling power will work. I unplugged the eb8 strips and plugged them back in....
at which time ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE!!!! Lights were flickering like a disco, pumps were turning off and on, chiller was running full bore, heater running full bore.
And most fun, dosers were all cranking into the sump
2nd most fun, ATO was also pumping fresh water into the tank well beyond my cutoff switch height giving me the urge to gather animals and build and ark.
At which point i'm frantically yanking cords out of the eb8's guessing which ones were the dosers and cursing myself for only labeling half the cords.
Finally get chiller, heater, ATO, dosers unplugged and let the fish have a dance party to the led disco.
Finally get in via fusion and everything is reset to factory defaults and labels, so all the outlets think they are something other than what I programmed them to be. Several power cycles later still same problem. Then after searching the web forever trying to figure out how to upload my apex backup program I stumbled onto a thread (not on the neptune site) that actually had helpful info of how to upload (via the classic dashboard by logging straight into apex like we used to).
Of course, couldn't get into apex and kept getting page not found 404 error, even after popup login screen sometimes.
So quit using chrome, downloaded IE11 and tried... no soup still... cycled router and apex several more times and finally got logged in. Then updated the firmware and web pages, then uploaded my backup and tank seemed to settle down to normal. Fusion wasn't connecting anymore so then I had to monkey with IP addresses and reset apex again and finally things look correct again.
there were 2 outlets that for some reason were mislabeled but everything else seems to be working again.
So, lessons learned:
1. label your cords, you may need to get to them fast in an emergency
2. Have a plan for what you will do if your controller dies (things get so complicated with apex programming, it can be hard to remember what you need to plug in/setup to run in emergency mode for a couple days)
3. backup your apex, mine was only 3 weeks old so only minor dosing adjustments and alarm adjustments
