I've got a used aqua medic ballast that fires up but makes a little noise doing so, and after being on promptly cuts back off... Any ideas here?

If you can, try a different bulb to make sure it is the ballast and not the bulb.

If it is the ballast and not the bulb, and you are not afraid of some DIY, then I would attempt to replace the starter, as IME that is what goes wrong with a magnetic ballast most of the time. Replacements are available online. If you don't want to replace the starter, then I would trash the ballast and replace it.

Thanks for the help, i'll try replacing the bulb asap,
how difficult is the starter replacement

I did it several years ago to a magnetic ballast. It was not hard. make sure the ballast is unplugged, of course. I would remove the cover and then look for the starter. It is usually a cylinder (maybe 2" diameter and 3-4" long) with two wires coming from it. The wires where it attaches may be soldered, so you may need to heat up any solder connections to remove the old wires.

Please remember, I cannot guarantee this is the issue. Your mileage may vary.

hahaha right, either way I'll fire up a new bulb tomorrow. Lets hope that solves the problem. The current bulb is really old anyway
Preciate the help bro
