Aquaillumination Classic Mounts

Hello there. Anyone had to cut the Aquaillumination Classic Mount rods down to size? I've read somewhere that they can be. However, I wanted to find out if the threads on each end of the rod extend all the way across from one end to the other? If I was to cut about an inch or two from either end, would I be left with a hole absent of any threads to screw in the perpendicular support bracket which hooks up the two parallel rods?
