Hi Everyone,

We're going to be doing our first ARC Coral Grow Out Contest. It's something that I've seen done on other forums and it works particularly well when done with a local reef club. It will be fairly straight forward. Here's the process If you choose to enter:
  • You will need to be a supporting member of the club. If you're not a supporting member, please join. Just the 10% discount at sponsors pays for the membership many times over.
  • Entry fee is $10.00 which can be paid for by going to your "Account Upgrades" and paying for the zoa contest. Clicking the link in the price listed to the left should take you there.
  • The frags will be distributed at the frag swap or it can be picked up from my house or we can meet somewhere. I go to Sixflags once a month and go hiking all over north Georgia most weekends when I'm in town... so I could possibly meet at other locations around the metro Atlanta area.
  • You will be required to post an initial pic on a tracking thread, which we will make available, and then followup pics every 2 weeks. Please note that the frag should be kept on the original plug.
  • At the end of two months, you will take a final pic and post it on the thread.
  • We will then juxtapose all the starter and final pics together and allow only the participants to vote on the winner. The person with the most votes wins the prize.
For this Coral Grow Out, we're going to be doing Zoas as they are easily propagated, hardy, colorful, and for me... plentiful. I'll put up the zoa colony for the contest. I'm not sure what it'll be yet but it'll be something nice. Once I know the number of participants I can then figure out which colony to hack up.

The prize for this contest will be a frag of Red Dragon Lady Bounce shroom. This is a pic of the mother:

So at this point we just need a head count before we begin. If you're interested please post on this thread that you're in and then we'll get this rolling.

For those that are attending the November 17th Club meeting and have paid the entry fee (or will pay at the swap) please let me know and I'll bring the frag with me. We will do a start date of December 1st.

Thanks!

We'd like everyone that wants to participate to pay through the site. It makes it so much easier to log and keep track of. You will get a banner for the duration of the contest and the winner will be noted on that banner for an additional month afterwards. Once we figure out Trophies and/or badges there'll be a permanent one of those assigned to the winner as well.

To become a supporting member. Click your username near the top right next to the inbox, then click "Account Upgrades". From there you will see the Supporting Member and Contest fields.
Users that pay for the contest but aren't Supporting Members will have their entry fee refunded and will not be a part of the contest. If you have any payment related questions please feel free to PM me. @anit77

I'm not sure how many frags Jin can make at this time. Once he says Uncle I'll be cutting off the option to pay for the contest. So first come first served.
I will also go out on a limb here. If you kill your frag before the end of the contest I will cut you a piece of mine once it's over. We as a group will also try to help you figure out what went wrong.

If we see people are having problems finding this info, I may grab Dave's 2nd post to list this directly under the OP or we'll just make an edit to the OP.
Thanks and good luck to all that get in on this great deal of a contest!!!

One other thing, I would like for the winner to post their tank parameters and equipment. We can bring a par meter over as well. I think we all want to be better reef keepers and knowing what the winner is doing right to grow things will help us all. As we try different types of corals in the future this will help us all with placement, flow, lighting, nutrient level, etc.
