ARC Info Thread: Metal Halides

Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to collect info on reefing subjects to help out new and/or experienced hobbiests alike. I've been in the hobby for 2 years or so, and have always been interested in using metal halides. But with all the different components and bulb varieties, halides can become a pretty intimidating topic. I've put together a list of questions that I feel can be confusing to people, and can give people a base of understanding.

How do you best determine what bulb wattage to use?
What is your favorite Metal Halide bulb manufacturer?
What is your favorite bulb per wattage?
What is your favorite ballast manufacture?
What is your favorite reflector?
What is your favorite bulb color? Bulb with best overall coral growth. Bulb with best overal coral color?
Do you prefer single or double ended bulbs?
How do you best handle the heat associated with metal halides?
How long do you run your halides?
How often do you replace your bulbs?
What advice would you give people interested in using halides?
