Gate vale mod
Since there a few people asking me about this mod, so I thought I post some pic to help explain it easier.

The gate valve mod is very easy to build. The hardest part is locating a PVC gate valve.
In addition to the gate valve, you will also need an elbow, a tee, and some short lengths of PVC pipe.
The G2 and G3 skimmers both use 1.25 inch PVC and fittings. The G4, G4x, G5, and G6 skimmers all use 1.5 inch PVC and fittings. For the lengths of PVC, we are using: (1) three inch, (2) four inch, and (1) twelve inch.
I find that they make it harder then it need to be.

I use the pipe that come with the skimmer to make sure it is set where it need to be. Connect that with the T. And I cut the 1 foot pvc down to size.

The 2 smaller 1 will go between the T and the Gate vale, while the other on to the other end of the T.

I then connect all them all together. No need to use any glue or other stuff since it will be in sump and you do not really have to worry about a little water going out between the connectors. Now you got yourself a Gate vale mod

I keep all the connection as close as I could with this mod, because I have very limited space in my sump.
Connect the Gray pipe that come with the skimmer back into it place. Play around with it to set the water level where you would like. Now turn the Gate vale to set it just right.

Since I do not use anything to glue the pipes together I was able to turn it to where I want it.
With this mod your gate vale will be above the water and therefore easier to set then the 1 on Asm.com and your hand will not touch the water either. I also use 2 T to try to cut down the bouble from going into tue sump.
