Well guys! Im back after a long break from the forum :)

Happy to say, I just finished about 4 1/2 hours of scrubbing hair algae off of my LR and Im worn out now. My tank lights are now off and my fish tank is wrapped in blankets so that no light will be allowed in (As i was advised by several members around 4 months ago). I am hoping to leave it this way for about 2 or 3 days and finish off any algae that may have escaped me :)

So here's hoping all this will work! If you have any extra ideas for me, go ahead and post em!

Thanks guys!!!
Grace and Peace!

just get rid of your phosphates would be the easiest way. You are just addressing the sysmtom. The algae is just going to grow back.
Phosphate reduction/ removal is most likely the answer. you have a few choices. Add a refugium with Macro algae. If you don't already have one get an inexpensive phosphate reactor for like 35 bucks and put some phosar or ROWA in there. (you'll need to CHANGE your media in phosphate reactor more often at first.) Your media might be getting saturated in 2 weeks depending upon how much is bound up in your rocks, tank, algae, etc. Use less media, change every 2 weeks. Use a great test kit like DD merk, Hack, or colormeter or send to AWT.

You must export the same or more nutrients than you put in. Overfeeding, tap water, high phosphate foods, etc. Use a phosphate reactor with some phosar or ROWA or whatever, and something to lower nitrates like a fuge, AZNO3, or whatever.

Thanks for the quick and outstanding reply mystery box!

I'll be looking into phosphate reactors now :)

Hope to knock out this algae problem, it got way out of control (to the point of about 125 lbs of live rock where you couldnt tell it was rock and not just mounds of 3 inch algae lol)

THanks again!

grab a 1/2 inch (or more in your case) hose and suck it up like a vacuum cleaner on your next water change.
