Hi all! I'm guessing most of you won't remember me (I only attended a very few events in my time with the club previously), but I thought I'd drop in and say hi, and I'm back!

Ok, so I've been back from Seattle over a year now, but for much of that time I was unemployed and thus a reef tank wasn't even in consideration. Then I had bills to pay (still do) and life to deal with, but as I'm settling in to my night shift... well, I still don't have a lot of spare money, but I'm thinking it's about time to get back in to the hobby, because I definitely have the time and could use something other than video-games to decompress to.

So, I should be back around the forums here from time to time, asking silly questions, and will probably be renewing my ARC membership before too much longer. My wife really enjoys fish, though she's never kept a reef of any sort, and I'm thinking we're going to be putting something together for that in bits and pieces, though fish are going to have to stay at the bottom of a very long priority list for some time.

To that end, I'm thinking of starting out (since I have no viable tanks, just a cracked 50L that is only good for reptiles) of building a refugium *first*. My thought is to get a 20 or 30 gal, some sand, a few pieces of rock, some garf grunge, and start seeing if I can get some mangroves to live. I figure by the time I've got that going well, I might have the money to spend on a larger tank to use it with, and maybe if I'm lucky score a good deal on one someone doesn't want anymore.

Cheers, hope you're all well!

(if anyone has a smaller, older tank they'd like to get rid of cheap, do let me know)

Welcome back and holler when your ready to get going I'm sure Ive got something useful for free over here.

Got a biocube 29 no lights. Comes with stand and return pump 150.00. 400 with full led lights that grow anything. Black sand also

Hi, and thanks for the replies all! It's good to be back, and I'm really looking forward to getting back into the hobby, or at least as much as my funds will allow.

Right now I'm not looking for anything fancy, nor anything with a stand, as we literally don't have the spare footprint to place even a smaller tank on a stand. As it is, above and beyond what I can afford, whatever I get is going to have to fit entirely on or under a large desk I have in my living room, and we'll have to be content with that for a while both until we have the money for more and just as importantly, until we can finally get all the boxes and other stuff out of the room we've been using for storage and my drums and make enough space: I've been considering cutting out a section of wall between those two rooms to mount a larger tank in with the support equipment in a convenient closet, but that's going to be some long ways off, assuming we even continue to live here that long. For the time being, I'm hoping by setting up a 'fuge first this way, I'll be able to get by without a sump box, but instead just keep some janitors, inverts and plants in a low-flow environment along with an algae-scrubber... though I haven't yet worked out what do to about a skimmer or if I can get by without one. More info on what I'm trying to do can be found http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?p=750804#post750804">here</a>, I definitely welcome all comments and ideas.

So, again thanks for the offers, but right now I need to stick with something that makes sense as a future/current 'fuge that will be my main tank for now. No stand required (though if one comes with it for a small enough tank just because you don't want it anymore, I can possibly find some place to store it in the interim). I don't have any desire to be a mooch, but I will definitely accept free stuff I don't already for the price of a short drive; otherwise, my budget on a tank is going to be about $50 I think, maybe as much as $100. As much as I would LOVE to take up either of the two nano-/bio-cube offers, they don't quite fit what I'm trying to accomplish at this time, but I would like to offer my thanks to hud3339 and PFCDeitz for extending them: much appreciated!

And to Brisco15, you've definitely got my attention! I'm headed down to Savannah this weekend, and knowing my buddy Vinay, it's very possible I might come back with a tank or some other equipment. When he lived in Atl, he was just a reef hobbyist, but since moving to Savannah has literally gone full-bore and is now a really-real marine biologist, so there's no telling what might change between now and then. I'll be ordering a water filter as soon as I get home (so it doesn't come while I'm out of town), so by the time I get home on Monday I'll know a little better where I'm going and what I need, so I'll definitely be in touch :D

PFCDietz: that would be awesome! Besides paltry cash offerings from my otherwise tight budget, I can make future promises of paying it forward and otherwise all 'round common-courtesy sharing of chaeto, frags, etc., once I get stuff going and have anything worth offering. Maybe with a little luck I'll eventually be able to offer mangroves and with a lot more luck (I've never tried keeping, much less breeding them, but am now quite interested), seahorses!
