It's in the sandbed and never really grabbed ahold of anything. It would occasionally move or shift positions on its own. I'd gently move it back when it did. No fish picking on it as far as I can tell. I'm not sure how clams fare once things start going bad, can I nurse it back to health, or should I get rid of it before it starts to decay?

How long have you had it? It looks like it has nice growth on the edges. How long has it been like this? I have had my derasa do strange thing before too. I would not take it out till you see your clean up crew on it. Kinda looks like something is making it mad. jmo

Had it about a month give or take. As far as I can remember the mantle never extended over ( at least not like my crocea clam), tho the clam would open up regularly. However, the recession started a few days ago.

Did you check it for pyramid snails when you got it? They most commonly bother Maximas, but I've seen then on derasas once before.

Edit: I had a nice little battle with pyramid snails. Not fun, I caught it a little too late. 1 of 4 Maximas that were infected made it.

I was just reading about pyramid snails earlier today. Gave it a quick check and it doesn't seem like I have any, also my other clam is fine. I want to take the clam out and inspect but I'm curious if that'll stress it out more.

They can be very difficult to see and usually try To hide in crevices. I had to take the clams out daily to scrape and inspect.

Clams move for the same reason as nems it may not like the conditions were you have it I wouldn't kill it yet not as long as it is opening

As a matter of fact yes. Yesterday I thought he was making a recovery. The mantle seemed to be out more. However, last night I noticed a lot of cuc hovering around. This morning they were all over. RIP.

I wonder as well. Like I said, it never seemed "happy". I did check for pyramid snails and didn't notice any. I do have a TON of colonista snails that come out at night. I wonder if they somehow affected the clam.
