I've always liked the look of sand but this time around I'm thinking bare bottom. What have you done to make the bare bottom still look nice? Pictures please

I put sand boxes in for my wrasses and now I have a tiny film of sand everywhere. Looks nicer maybe and it seems like it's not restricting detritus suspension at all. Not sure tho...

pick the right color to paint the bottom of your tank... also the bare bottom becomes a great place to grow chalice or favites.. use a large disc frag plug and let it grow right onto the glass..

one thing to think about is your CUC.. some things just don't transition without a sandbed.

Proper husbandry will keep the tank nice. Eventually the bottom will become coraline covered or with corals if you have them down there. I've ran BB tanks for 11 years now and love them! Good flow and a good protein skimmer go a long with with BB.

I cant stand bare bottom but I saw one that the bottom covered in GSP I thought that was pretty cool. I would think you would need alot of flow on the floor to not allow detritus to settle

Depending on the size of the tank, a bunch of flow may not be best for the livestock. What's nice is to have the flow work in your favor to collect the detritus in a corner, or to some area so you can easily remove it during water changes. My 60g cube pushes everything to the back by the corner overflow. It's quite nice and makes water changes a snap.

P.S. Dave, I hope you don't mind me showing off your tank. Your tank is by far my favorite. I love bare bottom tanks.
