I have been running a 1 inch sand bed in a 120 for over two years now. Getting ready to go to a 180 bare bottom tank. Is there anything I need to be cautious about? I’ll be using the same corals, fish , and live rock. Will be doing a light cleaning on my live rock.

Not much is different unless you have any sand sleeping wrasses to worry about

Be prepared for a long ugly phase. This is my first time doing bare bottom and I’m getting hit by algae from hell. Never had I had algae before but this time I’m getting the full blunt of it. I’m pretty much going through the same thing that Ryan from BRS is going through

I prefer bare bottom than sand, a lot easier to keep clean, it took around 10 months in my tank to stabilize, so be patient and yes, you’ll need to secure rocks

Lite (not light) cleaning…just rinse them off in the old water. Stick the rocks in the water and just move the rock some to create agitation. Is there a better way?
